Shark
Adventures
The itinerary for our Shark Adventures is
basically the same as for our West End
trips, except the focus is sharks, sharks,
and more SHARKS! The waters north of Grand
Bahama are teeming with a healthy population
of apex predators. Caribbean reefs, tigers,
hammerheads, lemons, and bulls - no shortage
of sharp teeth here! On some sites 2-3 dozen
Caribbean reef sharks are not uncommon. We
hang a chum tube in the water and add juicy
bait to encourage the sharks to come close
to the boat. The photo ops are nearly
endless. Hand feeding is always another
thrill-packed trip highlight.
Reef
sharks are a forgone conclusion, but hammers
and tigers are what we make the extra effort
to see. We have a shallow area with
excellent light where we’ve had great success
in chumming up tigers and lemons. The tigers
can be somewhat wary and cautious, and the
lemons are in-your-face bold and not camera
shy. It would be very unusual (in fact it
hasn’t happened yet) to not get your fill of
tiger sharks. Hammerheads can be a little
more hit and miss, but lots of chum and gore
on the deeper reefs help expedite the
process. Our Shark Adventures are fun and
action-packed, yet we still have the time to
experience great walls and reefs of the area
while pre-baited dive sites are bringing in
the Bahamian bad boys for our return an hour
or two later. Take a dive on the wild side
and hopefully return with all limbs intact!
